despite this week marking the start of finals period at school, i was able to have a blissful weekend full of moments reminiscent of those summertime days you wait for all year long. it seems slightly wrong to publish these sunny shots while there is a tornado warning in effect outside, but alas. here are three of my very favorites from last weekend.
i had plans for a big night out on friday — think two hours of nonstop dancing at atlanta hotspot, havana club — so i knew i needed to pregame the pregame with some serious food. i headed to genki, in virginia highland, where friends and i enjoyed aioli tuna, sushi, veggie fried rice, and brown rice/salmon teriyaki bowls. i loved the shabby chic outdoor seating that we tucked into behind the building.
after a night out followed by hours of tossing and turning, i woke up at 7:30, frustrated and impatient for the day to begin. i made my way to the park next to my dorm for a long walk. the greenery was at its peak and i was the only person in sight–a most peaceful start to a sunny saturday.
later in the afternoon i made my way to a friend’s home in sandy springs for her early birthday celebration (so what if it’s in june?). we sat outside and were completely spoiled by her sweet parents, who brought out homemade black bean burgers, chips and salsa, and chocolate covered strawberries for us to eat poolside. it was dreamy. i felt transported back to the era of summer camp and playdates, when my biggest worry was whether i’d like the afternoon snack my mother had packed for me that day. we ended the day eating king cones on our way out the door, heading back to campus, reality, and the rest.
here is my black bean burger–poolside, of course–topped with melty swiss cheese, tomato, spinach, ketchup and homemade chipotle mayo on the side. all on a toasted-to-perfection bun.
so, how ’bout them final exams…?
