bits and pieces of life lately:
lunching. this octopus lunch was something special. friends and i recently made a trip to eataly for an end-of-the-week splurge. we chose to dine at the ‘il pesce’ station of the italian superstore/market/restaurant/heaven-on-earth. the seared-perfect octopus (above) came with green olives, radishes, potatoes and a good dose of oil. i also ordered a side of garlicky, sautéed market greens, shown to the left of my gorgeous main plate.
hiking. a weekend trip to connecticut brought much-needed rest and relaxation after my first full week of (summer) work. in addition to significant sleep, homemade meals, and family time, i made sure to fit in some activity. i took one of my very favorite hikes — a steep and rigorous walk up a mountain that brings panting hikers up to a gorgeous viewpoint and back down to their cars, all in about 55 minutes. the snap above was taken midway through the walk.
reunions. i met up with friends from college who were briefly visiting the city for a nighttime catch-up session. we happily occupied an east village restaurant’s backyard garden (pictured above), where we had the dreamy string light surroundings all to ourselves.
city city city. feeling ever-victorious after an evening hot yoga class, i stopped my sweaty body smack in the middle of a crosswalk to capture this urban scene at dusk.
rooftop nights. i wish i had a balcony (or a terrace, or a patio, or an accessible rooftop) more than anything. thankfully, i have friends and family members that possess these wonderful luxuries. i obviously have no choice, then, but to regularly invite myself over to their apartments to take full (possibly inappropriate) advantage of their outstandingly beautiful outdoor spaces. evidence above.
